Search Queries
A name or location submitted through a search tool is sent directly to the outside provider operating that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its response. We do not keep a separate log or stored copy of those search terms.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email sent to us may be retained so our team can respond and preserve the related correspondence. We do not disclose that message outside our organization unless the law requires disclosure.
Data We Gather Automatically
Our systems automatically receive standard technical details each time a visitor loads a page:

- The referring website, when available
- Pages viewed and the time spent on them

- The device's assigned IP address

No Criminal-Record Data on File
Butler County Criminal History does not compile, maintain, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It publishes general directions to records held by the Butler County Sheriff, County and District Courts, Nebraska State Patrol Criminal Identification Division, and Nebraska Sex Offender Registry. We are not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Visitor data is not assembled into a consumer report or a criminal-history file about another person.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies supply the search boxes used on parts of the website. A partner's privacy policy, retention period, and disclosure practices govern any query sent through its tool. Those rules are not controlled by us. Review the provider's policy before entering a search.
Links to Other Websites
Links lead to court portals, the Butler County Sheriff, Nebraska agencies, legal resources, and outside search services. Once a visitor follows one, the destination's privacy policy controls the new visit. Read those terms before sharing personal information.
Some advertising companies may track activity across multiple websites to select ads. That tracking occurs through the advertiser's systems.

Nebraska's Public Records Statutes, Neb. Rev. Stat. §§84-712 through 84-712.09, govern public bodies and do not turn this private website into a government custodian. Nebraska's Security, Privacy, and Dissemination of Criminal History Information Act, §§29-3501 through 29-3528, regulates covered criminal-history information. Subject to applicable law and our ability to verify a request, a visitor may:
- Opt out of processing where an applicable rule provides that choice
- Request deletion of data that we control
- Ask us to correct inaccurate visitor information
- Request a copy of personal information we hold about the visitor
